Why is the best time to travel in the shoulder season?  Well, we recently traveled to Italy and the prices and the crowds were the most important reason why we chose to go in the month of November.  

What is Considered the Shoulder Season in Europe

The shoulder season in Europe is considered April and May just before the summer and September and October just before the holidays.  

Benefits of Traveling in the Shoulder Season?

One of the most important benefits of traveling in the shoulder season is the large crowds which in some places can be very busy.  We went to Venice, Italy in November 2024 and it was a very good experience for us.  I can’t imagine going to Venice in the busy travel season the sidewalks are very narrow in some places and the restaurant’s would be very overcrowded.  When we were traveling in Italy we never felt like it was to crowded.  Another benefit of traveling in the shoulder season is the price of airline tickets and hotels are significantly lower during those months.  We found very reasonably priced tickets to fly into Rome, Italy from Dulles International Airport in the DC area.  In regards, to the hotels we found that prices were reduced considerably.  One of the things we like also was the weather in November in Italy was not that terrible.  We were able to wear light jackets.

Better Excursion Crowds

One of the things we liked the most was being about to go to excursions with less crowds.  When we went to Marano where they make the glass and that was just awesome and the crowds were next to nothing.  We also went to Florence, Italy and Rome, Italy and the lines to get into places were not to terrible.

Relax and Ride Carlisle

We just an airport shuttle service to take us to the airport which was so relaxing and well worth the cost.  They picked us up at our door and drove us to the airport.
